Mrs. Myrle Parrish Slagle, age 92, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2021. Born on July 4th, 1928 in Westminster, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Norma Parrish. She met her husband Lee in Westminster and they later moved to Burnsville, NC where she lived the majority of her life.
Myrle was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lee Slagle; daughter, Vickie Slagle Fortune; brothers: Carl, Ralph, and Roland; sisters: Mildred, Eva, Jeanetta, and Helen.
She is survived by her loving grandson, Roger Slagle (Jamie) of Asheville, NC; brother, Buddy Parrish (Bonnie) of Johnson City, TN; and sister, Doris Cornett (Ralph) of Speedwell, TN. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, and her caregiver and friend, Pam Petit.
Myrle did many things throughout her life. She served as cafeteria manager at East Yancey High School, as well as owned and operated three businesses with her husband in Burnsville, which included Li’l Smoky Drive In, The Amberjack Restaurant, and Nip & Tuck Fabric Shop. Myrle was a past member of the Mayland Community College Board of Trustees and was very active in her community.
Myrle was a lady with many talents. She enjoyed arts, crafts, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of West Burnsville Baptist Church where she sewed many costumes for the annual Christmas pageant and enjoyed numerous trips with her Senior Adult group.
Services will be held in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, May 1st at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to service time. Reverend Ricky Ray will officiate. Private burial will follow at Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Bakersville, NC. Special thanks go to the wonderful staff at Memory Care of Asheville and Yancey House in Burnsville for providing such loving and invaluable care to Myrle in her final days.
