Wilma O’linda Henson, age 67, of Burnsville, passed away at Mission Hospital in Asheville following an extended illness on Friday, May 27th, 2022. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of Violet Young Henson and the late Jake (Willie Jay) Henson.
Wilma had a passion for fabric arts and ceramics, making a career for herself from her creativity and talent. She also volunteered at the Yancey County Senior Center in Burnsville and made many crafts with the seniors throughout the years. She also worked various jobs in the community that she absolutely loved and enjoyed doing.
In addition to her mother, Violet Young Henson, left to cherish her memory is her three children: Janice Enett, David Jay, and Willie J. (Papa) and wife, Chandra; five grandchildren: Eyonah Violet and Adelaide Zona Ann, both of Winston-Salem, Tameika Michelle and Shane Ronald Lamont, both of Alabama, and David Treyvon of Burnsville; sisters: Jeanette Henson, Vicky Young (James Paul), Rev. Cathy Henson; and brothers, Walter Henson (Charlene) and Melvin Henson (Madeline Young); along with a host of loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4th in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to service time. Rev. Cathy Henson and Rev. Richard Blanton will officiate.
