Vaughn E Allen, Jr, 77, of the South Toe Community went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 30, 2020
Junior was born on July 3, 1942 in Kinston, NC, he lived in West Virginia and Hickory, NC before his family moved back to Yancey County when he was a teenager. He was the son of the late Vaughn E and Vivian Gouge Allen.
He had a bright smile, a hand to greet family and friends alike. Junior lived life each day with much strength, caring and love for his family, church and friends. Anyone who met him was blessed to have known him, and he was always a shining star that lit up a path for all to follow and always found the good in others.
Junior was a member of South Estatoe Baptist Church for 60 years, and the church greeter for many years. Each Sunday, he stood on the front porch giving each member a Sunday bulletin with news for the service. In earlier years, Junior would often walk to church, and he cleaned the church weekly.
Junior enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves baseball team. He loved to play Rook, and he was formidable partner when playing with family and friends. For many years, his greatest pleasure was walking out in nature and watching and waiting on the snow to fall. Junior loved birds, lighthouses and most of all he loved Smokey the cat.
Surviving are sisters: Debbie Autrey and Brenda (Howard) Simmons of Burnsville. Brother; John (Linda) Allen of Greensboro. Nephews; Andy(Angie) Simmons and Jeff Simmons of Burnsville, and a great nephew Lance(Emily) Simmons of Virginia.
