Tennie Fox English, age 90 of Green Mountain, passed away on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Wash and Esther Laughrun Fox. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby English, who passed away in 2002; and a daughter, Rachel Willis, who passed away in 2020 that was near and dear to her heart; a great-grandson, Trevor Matthew Watson; two brothers: T.H. Sherman Fox, and wife, Ruth, and J.D. Fox; three sisters: Gladys McKinney, Vaughtie Roberts and husband, Paul, and Marjorie Hilemon and husband, Fred; as well as her brother-in-law, Tom Ayers.
Tennie was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Green Mountain. She was employed by the Nu Wray Inn where she cooked for many years. Tennie knew no strangers, and she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her sister, Robbie Ayers; brother, Clyde Fox and wife, Brenda, all of Green Mountain; sister-in-law, Jean Fox of Asheville; brother-in-law, Eugene McKinney of Green Mountain; granddaughters: Nikki Fortner and husband, Dennis, of Mars Hill, Catlin Forbes and husband, DJ, of Burnsville, and Brinkley Ogle and husband, Brandon, of Green Mountain; great-grandchildren: Brianna Willis, Mason Willis, Kobe Phillips, Kaleb Watson, Matthew Watson, Colton Ogle, Remington Ogle, and Tennie Ogle; as well as several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The family will accept friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service for visitation. Interment will follow the service at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery off Long Branch in Green Mountain, NC. Reverend Roger Hilemon will be officiating.
