Ronnie Kyle Grindstaff

Ronald Kyle “Ronnie” Grindstaff, age 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 17, 2022, at White Oak Nursing Home in Tryon, NC. A native of Yancey County, Ronnie was born July 24, 1937, and grew up in the Green Mountain community of Brush Creek. He is the son of the late R.K. and Gladys Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his eldest son, Randall Grindstaff.

Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Norma “Banner” Grindstaff; two children, Bradley Grindstaff (Michelle) and Lisa Grindstaff (Ray); his sisters: Brenda Silver (J.R.) and Ginger Phillips (Jap); eight grandchildren: Daniel Grindstaff, Kasey Peterson, Ashley Garner, Forrest Garner, Matthew Owens, Jaime Owens, Reggie Owens, Rachel Owens; and two great-grandchildren, Desmond Peterson and Spencer Peterson. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Glenna Gardner, Marsha Gregory (Clarence), and Carolyn Ledford (Charles).

Ronnie was in the trucking business and loved the big trucks. His Saturdays were always spent in his garage working on or cleaning his trucks. Hanging out in Ronnie’s garage was every kid’s favorite place to be as well as neighbors who would drop by for something or another. He loved his children, grandchildren and so many nieces and nephews. But he loved his Norma most of all. He was always so proud to be married to who he said was the prettiest girl in Burnsville. And since he was a Clearmont fellow, getting a gal from Burnsville was a big deal, or so he said.

Things seemed to work out pretty good for that country boy and big city gal.

And lastly, he also had a tender heart and cried easily, hating to see people suffer and loved the lord. He will be missed by many.

Services will be held Sunday, February 20 at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to service time. Marty Parrott will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery on Brush Creek in Green Mountain where Pastor Johnny Hewett will officiate. Following the graveside service, there will be refreshments in the fellowship hall.
