Robert Lee Briggs, age 76, of Green Mountain, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 26th, 2022. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late George and Dora Beaver Briggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Martin Briggs; a daughter, Angela Briggs; brothers: Ralph, Arnold, Rex, and Less; and a grandchild, Aaron Briggs.
Left to cherish his loving memory is his wife of 59 years, Mollie Briggs, of the home; son, Jerry Briggs; daughters: Amanda (David Evans, Jr.) McCurry and Nancy (Brian) Williams; brother, Frank Briggs; sisters: Bonnie Byrd, Louise Griffith, Ester Byrd, Addie Briggs, and Kathleen Fairchild; grandchildren: Kayla (Brandon) Rice, Logan (Grace) Williams, Heidi (Calvin) Gibbs, Adam McCurry, Alicia Briggs, Amber (Matthew) Nunes, Courtney (Gary) Nunes, and Johnny Briggs; great-grandchildren: Kobe and Kyro Gibbs, Levi Rice, Matthew and Braxton Nunes, Elijah and Ayden Nunes. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and extended family that loved him dearly.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 30th at Double Island Baptist Church at 1 o’clock. The family will receive friends and loved ones 30 minutes prior to service time. Reverend Rick Woody will officiate. Private interment will follow at Double Island Baptist Church Cemetery.
