Rex Gardner

Rex Daniel Gardner passed away September 6th, 2020. He was born and raised in Yancey County, but relocated to Morganton, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Ray Daniel Gardner and Mable Todd Gardner.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, he loved all music but was most fond of listening to and singing gospel songs. He absolutely loved spending time with his many friends and family, who will miss him very dearly. He was also a dedicated member of Way of The Cross Baptist Church of Morganton.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanette Dodd Gardner; son, Ned Dean Higgins; sisters: Shirley Norton and Bernice Gardner Boone; grandchildren: Crystal Banks and Lawrence Gardner.

Rex is survived by sister, Joyce Van Patton of Leicester, North Carolina; children: Alma Jean Barns of Burnsville, Rex Allen Gardner and wife Barbara of Morganton, Linda Diane Gardner of Burnsville, Rhonda Marie Cox and husband Adam of Drexel, North Carolina and Denise Lyvonne Gardner of Morganton, Chloe Mello and husband Mike of Candler, North Carolina and Raymond Higgins and wife Tracy of Burnsville. Mulitple grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Services will be held in the Chapel at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12th. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour before at 12 p.m. Burial will take place in the Smith Cemetery in Burnsville.
