Rena Murphy Mace, age 85 of the White Oak Creek community, went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 14th, 2020 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Dora Self Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jack “Bubby” Mace, who passed away November 25th. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roger Mace; sisters, Pauline Chandler and Shirley Loftis; brother, Curley Murphy; and two grandsons, Loren Westall and Robert Mace.
Rena was an active member of White Oak Baptist Church for many years.
Surviving are her children: Carol Elliot and husband Johnnie, Mary Lou Wilson and husband Mike, Ronnie Mace and wife Reba, all of White Oak, and Joan Westall of Marion; sisters, Dorothy Young of Burnsville and Cartha Biddix of Statesville; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Also, numerous nieces, nephews and a great big extended family.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 17th at 2 p.m. in the Autrey Cemetery at South Estatoe Church in Burnsville. Reverends Charles Carroll and Trent Honeycutt will officiate.
