Mary Ann Burrus Wampler, age 88 of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2023. She was born on April 26, 1934, to the late Rev. William Edgar and Edith Oakley Burrus. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers: Allen Burrus and Thomas Lee Burrus; and sister, Sarah Burrus Wardlaw.
Mary Ann was a devoted follower of Christ. She worked as a nurse for many years for her favorite doctor, Dr. Wampler. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, “Tutu”, sister, and friend to all who met her, and she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memory is the love of her life, her husband of 67 years, Dr. Garland Wampler; son, Andrew Wampler (Capi), of Weaverville, NC; daughter, Diane Wampler Howard (Randy) of Conover, NC; brother, Layne Burrus (Nonna) of Alabama; grandchildren: Michelle Howard Long (Reed) of Greenville, SC, and Lauren Howard Vaughan (Logan) of Destin, FL; great-grandchildren: Caroline Long (9), Kate Long (7), and Landry Vaughan (21 months). The family would like to thank Paula Renfro (Anthony), Sharon Renfro, Judy Reed, Angie Blevins, Heather Huskins, and Kim Silvers for their exceptional caregiving; but especially her loving husband, Garland Wampler, for providing the love and care necessary for her to stay at home.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church in Burnsville. There will be a private gathering for family at 2:30, prior to the service. Reverend Kent Smith will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care of WNC at 856 Georges Fork Rd, Burnsville, NC 28714 or to Higgins Memorial Methodist Church at 101 N. Main Street, Burnsville, NC 28714.
