Mary Hamilton, age 96 of Burnsville, flew into Heaven on August 12, 2023, just minutes after her great-granddaughter, Paisley, played her guitar and sang “I’ll Fly Away” at her bedside. She was born on March 13, 1927, to the late Rama and Mary Burch Dye.
Mary loved her family so much. She was a great quilt maker, and nurtured flowers of all kinds.
She is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Franklin Hamilton, after just celebrating their 78th wedding anniversary on August 1st. She is also survived by her daughter, Bonita Wiedenhaupt, with whom she resided; her son, Dennis Hamilton and wife, Cathy, from Alexandria, VA; grandchildren: Jason Wiedenhaupt and wife, Veleda, and their daughter Paisley, Kendra Simpson and husband Jason, and their sons, Cole and Collier, Sarah Hamilton, Marianne Hamilton-Lopez and husband, Noel, and their children Sebastian, Miles, and Elena.
Mary requested that there be no services held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family requests that donations be made to Compassionate Care of WNC, the hospice organization that enormously helped in Mary’s care, at www.compassionatecarewnc.org
Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Hamilton family.
