Kenneth Lee Hilliard, age 90, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 15th, 2020 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation after a short period of declining health. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Lee and Eula Gillespie Hilliard. He was preceded in death by brother, Col. Ray Hilliard and sister, Lila Hilliard Johnson.
Kenneth briefly served in the U.S. Air Force until his mother’s failing health required his return for her care. He was a superintendent with Mohasco for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Ken enjoyed traveling, maintaining his lawn to perfection, NASCAR and most importantly, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were very near and dear to him.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Jenell Burleson Hilliard; sons: Ken Hilliard and wife Tami of Beaufort, SC, Terry Wilson and wife Pam of Pensacola; daughter, Beth Hughes and husband Randy of Micaville; grandchildren: John Hilliard, Cameron Wilson and wife Brandi, Casey Wilson, Brandi Jones and husband Jamus, Brooke Letterman and husband Drew, Brinkli Napier and husband Banner. Six great-grandchildren, along with an expectant due in November. Also, Kenneth’s sister at heart, Mona Lee Hilliard of Burnsville.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 18th in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers. Rev. Tommy James will officiate. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Edge Cemetery in Micaville.
