Kathleen (Blalock) Young

Kathleen Blalock Young, 93, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday May 31, 2020 at Aston Park Healthcare.   A native of Yancey County, she was born May 4, 1927 in Micaville to the late Benjamin and Pearl Harris Blalock.   She was the wife of the late John Hiram Young.  She was also preceded in death by a son Tommy H Sams, brothers Joe, J.T. and Bill Blalock and sisters Alma McCurry and Ruby Smith.

Kathleen was a beautician, and enjoyed working in her garden, fishing and traveling. Especially enjoyed adventures with her husband Hiram as a member of a Model-A car club.   She was a longtime member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Renee Alyward and husband Alastair of Marshall.  Son, John B Young and wife Denise of Burnsville.  Four grandchildren: Cameron Smith (Staci), Benjamin Smith, Brandon Young and Lorissa Cannon (Brandon).  6 great grandchildren, Ivy Riddle (Darren) Mitchell Smith (Katie) Isabella Coates, Atley Cannon, Sterling Cannon and Tessa Morrow.  And a great-great grandchild, Madilynn Rae Smith.   A sister-in-law, Beulah Blalock of Micaville and many beloved Nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Whittington Cemetery.

Kathleen had been a resident of Aston Park Health Care Center in their Memory Care since September 2018.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aston Park Healthcare Center for their Employee Appreciation Fund, in gratitude for their long hours of providing loving care for so seriously ill patients at the Risk of their Own Health.
