Joyce Laws Pate, 79, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Carmon and Malinda Freeman Laws and the wife of Jim Pate who died in 1993. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister: Jewel Yvonne Laws. She was a dedicated member of Petersons Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Joyce served others through her work with Yancey County Dept. of Social Services and continued on serving others after her retirement.
Surviving are her daughters: Ramona Whitson and husband Rev. Donald Whitson of Dandridge, TN, Connie Adkins and husband Victor of Burnsville; a son: Bobby Angel and wife Jamie of Kennesaw, GA; grandchildren: Keisha Huskins and husband Aaron of Weaverville, Monica Adkins of Chattanooga, TN, Brandy Whitson of Dandridge, TN. Victoria Hensley and husband Justin of Burnsville, Jarred Whitson of Asheville, and Lauren Angel and Lanie Angel of Kennesaw, GA ; great grandchildren: Jazlynn, Grayson, Jett and Keiley; a step daughter: Kathy McHone of Burnsville and a step son: David Pate of Fairview; sisters: Jean Harris of Lancaster, SC, Louise Landress and husband Terry, and Mozelle Penland all of Burnsville; a brother: Bruce Laws and wife Juanita of Burnsville; special sisters-in-law: Wanda Chaney, Hope Chandler, Shelby Silvers and Ann Maguire; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Donald Whitson and Denny Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Eddie McMahan Cemetery at Low Gap.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, and at other times will be at her home.
