John Andrew Brown

John Andrew Brown of Black Mountain, NC passed peacefully November 18, 2023 at the age of 80, with his daughter by his side holding his hand at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC. A native of Black Mountain, John was born on August 1, 1943, to the late Rufus Brown and Fleeta Sneed Brown.

John was a carpenter who enjoyed working with his hands and worked for Sam Byrd Construction Company in Black Mountain.  He loved sitting on his front porch and walking his precious dog Biscuit on the nearby golf course. John was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Brown, Betty McDonald, Geneva Morris and Carolyn White. He is survived by his wife, Irene Worley Brown and daughter, Angie Higgins and her husband Doug Higgins of Burnsville; grandson Nathaniel Higgins and great-grandson Andy Higgins; three siblings, Rufus J. Brown of Nebo, Lucille White of Swannanoa, Carnilla Jones of Black Mountain.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to his wife, Irene, at 112 Destiny Way, Burnsville NC 28714 to help with final expenses.  

In staying with John’s wishes, he will be cremated with no public service.
