On the morning of January 22, 2023, our beloved Joe Silvers of Asheville, NC passed away at the age of 85. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Fred and Mae Silvers. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Patricia Johnson Silvers; brothers: Milton, Junior, Burgin, Frank, and Leroy; sister, Anzalee Silvers; and nephew, Randy Silvers.
Joe married his best friend and love of his life, Pat, in 1965. The life they shared was dedicated to one another, family, and those in need. Joe proudly served in the Army National Guard. Alongside his brother, Burgin, he began Silvers Brothers, Inc. in the early 1970’s. They continued to become major haulers of milk, juice, and water for the southeast. Joe dedicated his commitment and time to the Lions Club of Pisgah Forest for 52 years, as well as many notable charities locally, nationally, and internationally; including serving on the Board of both Eliada Home and the ARC of Buncombe County. Joe was an auctioneer for 33 years and utilized his license to hold benefit-only auctions. He was an avid racing fan and a part of a NASCAR pit crew in the mid 1960’s. He also participated in and loved sports.
