Obituary

On the morning of January 22, 2023, our beloved Joe Silvers of Asheville, NC passed away at the age of 85. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Fred and Mae Silvers. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Patricia Johnson Silvers; brothers: Milton, Junior, Burgin, Frank, and Leroy; sister, Anzalee Silvers; and nephew, Randy Silvers.

Joe married his best friend and love of his life, Pat, in 1965. The life they shared was dedicated to one another, family, and those in need. Joe proudly served in the Army National Guard. Alongside his brother, Burgin, he began Silvers Brothers, Inc. in the early 1970’s. They continued to become major haulers of milk, juice, and water for the southeast. Joe dedicated his commitment and time to the Lions Club of Pisgah Forest for 52 years, as well as many notable charities locally, nationally, and internationally; including serving on the Board of both Eliada Home and the ARC of Buncombe County. Joe was an auctioneer for 33 years and utilized his license to hold benefit-only auctions. He was an avid racing fan and a part of a NASCAR pit crew in the mid 1960’s. He also participated in and loved sports.

Left to cherish his loving memory are his sisters-in-law: Agnes Silvers, Veronica Rimmer, and Wanda Chaney; Nephews: Danny (Peggy), Donny (Angelica), Rick (Diane) Silvers, Wayne Roland; Nieces: Janet Wall (Roy), Cathy Silvers, Machelle Brinkley, DeDe Peterson (Kara), Stephanie Talbott (Shawn); great nephews: Joshua Silvers (Nicole), Robert Wall, Lee Nelson. Great Nieces: Mary Alyce Taylor (Damon), Courtney Wagnor (Todd), Andrea Garland (Gary), Anna & Lilly Silvers, Crystal Silvers, Casey Hall, Danielle Wilson, Morgan Talavera (Cameron), Katie Talbott, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home at 1 o’clock. Larry Gasperson will officiate. The family will receive friends and loved ones two hours prior to service time. Interment will follow in the Cane River Baptist Church Cemetery in Burnsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Pat and Joe Silvers Scholarship Fund at Pisgah Forest Lions Club, PO Box 94, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768.
