Jewel Edwards Adkins, age 88 of the Little Creek community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Gertha Guinn Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lark Adkins, who died in 1990; husband, Coy Edwards, who died in 2017; and sisters, Anita Treadway and Nina West.
She was a member of Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Jewel loved working in her garden and growing her beautiful flowers. She loved her family dearly.
Surviving are her daughter, Gwendolyn Wilson and husband, Ricky of Green Mountain; son, Victor Adkins and wife, Connie of Burnsville; brother, Alden Edwards and wife, Norma of Burnsville; 3 granddaughters: Melissa Miller and husband, Jamie of Erwin, TN, Monica Adkins of Chattanooga, TN, Victoria Hensley and husband, Justin of Burnsville; 4 great-grandchildren: Alison Robinson and husband, Rome of Erwin, TN, Adam Miller of Erwin, TN, Jett and Memphis Hensley of Burnsville.
The family will receive friends and loved ones Friday, May 21st, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at her home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 22nd at Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church at 2 p.m., where the body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service time. Reverends Todd Robinson and Marvin Hensley will officiate. Graveside Services will follow at the Sam Edwards Cemetery on Little Creek.
