Obituary

Jack “Jackie” Edward Smith, husband of Toni Smith, went home to his Heavenly Father on April 10, 2023, following a tragic accident.

Jackie grew up in Burnsville, NC, and was a son of the late Oval & Evelyn Stiles Smith. He was an Army Veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Smith (Marty) & Bobby Joe Smith (Thanna).

After retiring from Verizon and the US Postal Service, he enjoyed spending time fishing at Lake Hartwell and working outside on his many projects.

Jackie was a kind, easygoing man with a big heart for people and liked to make people laugh. Spending time with his family and getting together with special friends was what he enjoyed. As a proud grandfather, he always looked forward to traveling to Kentucky to see his grandchildren. He was a devoted fan of UNC Tar Heel Basketball and Clemson Football. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Most of all, Jackie loved witnessing to people that he met about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While attending Oakdale Baptist Church in Townville, SC, he faithfully served as a deacon, and he enjoyed singing in the choir.

Toni and Jackie were in the process of moving back to Hendersonville, NC, and had rejoined Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville and the Trinity Choir.

Along with his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his daughter, Cristal, and son, Bradley Smith. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan & Haley Smith, and Kyle Lewis (Alexandria), sisters-in-law, Marty Smith & Thanna Smith and brother-in-law, Ronnie Wyatt (Regina) as well as his nephew, Barry Blanton (Misty), and nieces, Shelly Smith Blackburn (Brad) & Tanya Smith Lassiter (Mike).

The family would like to express a special thank you to the PRISMA Trauma Team in Greenville, SC, and especially Ryan and Elliot for their loving care.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, NC, combining both his church families from Trinity and Oakdale. Pastor David Blizzard, Toby Humphries and Pastor Doug Guy will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Educational Building Fund at Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Please indicate “In Memory of Jack Smith” on check correspondence.

The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center is serving the Smith family and a message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.standardfuneralcenter.com.
