Harold Edward Bowditch, age 77, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Charles George Veterans Medical Center in Asheville, NC. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Frank and Edna Burgin Bowditch.
Harold was the owner and operator of Bowditch Wood Products for many years. He was a master at his craft. He was a proud American who served as an Air Force mechanic working on military aircraft in the Vietnam War.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Bowditch; daughters: Sherri Ann Amato (Giuseppe), and Pamela Solarek (Don); sister, Ramona DeWitte (Louis); niece, Ginger DeWitte; nephew: Michael DeWitte (Christy); great-niece: Tylee Katherine; grandchildren: Antonio Amato, Luca Amato, and Bradley Williams (Jenni); great-granddaughter, Cora Jane Williams.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery located at 962 Old US 70 Highway, Black Mountain, NC 28711 on Monday, September 18, 2023, in Asheville, NC, followed by military grave rites to be conducted by Sgt. E.L. Randolph, Chapter #57, DAV to honor the service and dedication Harold had shown his country throughout his life.
