Grant James Holcombe, 87, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Father’s Day, June 21st, 2020. His departure was the result of complications from a surgery. Grant is a 1951 graduate of Bald Creek School, an Army Veteran and a retiree of Micro-Switch, Mars Hill. He is one of the 11 siblings born to Nelle and Alvin Holcombe of Horton Creek, Yancey County. Grant was preceded in death by his mom and dad, twin infant brothers, Jennings and Adler, also 5 other siblings: Ruby, Emma Lou, Libby, Alfred and Katherine.
Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Lois Holcombe; two sisters, Eva Holcombe and Juanita Tipton and husband, Walter; as well as two brothers: Ed Holcombe and wife, Doris and Ted Holcombe and wife, Barbara.
His greatest experience of life was in receiving Jesus as Savor and Lord. Through this, Grant’s life was transformed to serving God, God’s family, and others in and through West Burnsville Baptist Church for 42 years. He loved His Lord, Lois, his family and church family and friends. He was a faithful husband for Lois until his departure.
Graveside services will be at the West Burnsville Church Cemetery and will be officiated by Rev. Ricky Ray on Thursday morning, June 25th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Clarence Ledford will assist. Military grave rites by SGT. E.L. Randolph, Chapter 57, DAV. Due to the pandemic the family requests guest to wear masks and practice the 6-feet-apart social distancing.
