Gerald Lyn Kirkland

Gerald Lyn Kirkland, age 62 of Black Mountain, went Home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 14th, 2021 at Asheville Mission Hospital. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Mary Ellen Dellinger and James Thomas Kirkland. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters: Tammy and Thelma Lynn Kirkland.

He worked for D.H. Griffin Company for over 15 years where he was hoping to retire from soon, he was an integral part of day-to-day operations. On weekends, you could occasionally find him in Boone at a cabin with friends. But his absolute favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family. He loved get-togethers, especially the holidays, surrounded by love and good food. He was a member of East Black Mountain Free-Will Baptist Church. Anyone that knew Gerald, will remember him for how much he cherished and loved his family and friends.

Surviving is his wife, Kathy Kirkland, of the home; son, Matthew Kirkland (Danielle) of Nebo, NC; daughters: Donna Hoilman (Eddie) of Spruce Pine, NC, Wendy Hicks (Jason) of Marion, NC; stepmother, Patricia Kirkland of Odum, GA; sister, Angelia Connell (Marvin) of Springfield, GA; brothers: Jade and Anthony Kirkland, both of Jesup, GA; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Services will be held Thursday, November 18th in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Rev. Danny Sprinkle will officiate. Burial will take place Friday, November 19th in the Wilson-Wheeler Cemetery in Burnsville at 11 a.m.
