Gerald Ronald Davis

Gerald “Jerry” Ronald Davis, age 79 of Burnsville, died on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Seigle Davis and Cora Hall Davis Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy Davis; stepfather, Rob Byrd; and by his many pet “children.”

Jerry was a graduate of East Yancey High School and Mars Hill College. He spent a decade working as a Personnel Manager for Mohasco Corporation and was a retired middle school teacher from the Yancey County School System.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Thanna Black Davis; his brother, Larry Davis of Bostic; daughters: Crystal Davis of Chapel Hill and Tiffany Davis McEntire of Spruce Pine; son-in-law, Ted McEntire; grandchildren: Alexandria “Ally” McEntire, Addison McEntire, Robert “Bobby” Middour, and Caroline Middour; and many extended family members. He is also survived by his pet “children”: July, Jasmine, Sunshine, and Sahara.

The family will receive friends and family Wednesday, July 7th from 5 – 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Jerry loved animals and volunteered his time to help build the current Yancey Humane Society building. The family asks that anyone who wants to remember him should make donations to the Yancey Humane Society at 962 Cane River School Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
