Flora Thomas Burleson, age 101, of Micaville, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 at Brian Center in Spruce Pine. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Thomas and Mae Silver Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Sam Burleson; son, Johnny Burleson; siblings: Earl Thomas, Rex Thomas, Faye Thomas, Nelda Cooper; and son-in-law, Larry Patton.
Flora was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking and spending time with her family. She was faithful to Micaville Presbyterian Church where she was their oldest member.
Left to cherish her loving memory are two daughters: Mona Patton of Burnsville, and Linda Bartlett (Ralph) of Marion; three grandchildren, Tammy Hensley (Bobby), Brian Patton (Emily), both of Burnsville, and Amy Dowdle (Joshua) of Marion; three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Opal Burleson of Marion, Pearl Foster of Panorama City, California, and Peggy Blevins of Hickory; daughter-in-law, Teresa Burleson of Burnsville.
Due to Covid concerns, the family will have a private graveside service at the Hughes Cemetery in the Pleasant Gap Community on Green Mountain. Reverend Phillip Garland will officiate. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation for the wonderful care and love that Flora was given there.
