Evelyn (Evie) Payne Howell, 75 years old and lifetime resident of Yancey County, went home to be with the Lord on November 21st, 2022. Born February 14th, 1947, she was a member of Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member for 19 years. She enjoyed her church family and appreciated all the prayers that were made for her.
She was preceded in death by her gracious and wonderful husband, Masel Howell, and parents Oliver and Margie Payne of Bill Allen Branch Road, where Evelyn spent several years taking care of her parents. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Hughes and Ethel Bailey, both of Hickory, NC.
She enjoyed raising a garden and flower beds as long as she could, and she also loved feeding birds.
Surviving is her daughter and adopted daughter, Jessica and Ashley. Jessie was with Evie for 28 years. Evie loved her with all of her heart. Also surviving is a brother, Edward Payne; a dear sister, Ellen Renfro; a very precious brother-in-law, Robert Renfro; also, special caretakers and nieces, Dawn Warren and Chrissie Plemons; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 25th, 2022, at Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service. Reverends Cephas Renfro and Jason Kritz will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The pallbearers will be as follows: Ricky Plemons, Daniel Maxon, Derrick Renfro, Josh Warren, Christian Buchanan, Gunner Renfro, and Dakota Renfro; as well as honorary pallbearer, Robert Renfro.
