Etta Louise Hensley, 89, of Cattail Creek, went home Thursday, August 1, 2019. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Dora Hughes Dulaney, of which she was the youngest of 16 children. She was the wife of Ford Hensley who died in 2001. Louise was a lifelong member of Pilgrims Chapel Church, and was truly loved by her family and friends. She was an avid gardener and was known as “The Cattail Creek Caretaker”. Louise was also preceded in death by sisters: Belvia Dulaney Hunter, Ella Mae Dulaney, Dollie Dulaney Waldrop, Mary Dulaney Duncan, and also an infant sister; and, brothers: Sylvester Hughes, Lawrence Joseph Dulaney, Paul Jacob Dulaney, Clyde Willie Dulaney, Lloyd Dulaney, Claude Edward Dulaney, George Wesley Dulaney, James Woodard Dulaney, and David Dulaney.
Surviving are her son: Danny Hensley and friend, Pam, of Burnsville; 3 grandsons: Chad Hensley of Spruce Pine, and Michael Hensley and Matthew Hensley of Burnsville; a great grandson: Drew Hensley of Burnsville; a sister: Ruth Black of Shoal Creek; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Stanley McMahan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dulaney Family Cemetery on Shoal Creek.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 3PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
