Emory Dean Chrisawn passed away on New Year’s Day due to injuries received in a single car accident. He was the husband of the late Shannon Chrisawn. Dean was born on March 30, 1938 in Celo. He was preceded in death by his father, Emory Brown Chrisawn and his mother, Mae Hoover Chrisawn. He attended college in Mars Hill and NC State, where he met his wife, Shannon. They married and moved back to Celo until his death.
Dean had many careers, including land developer, builder, Christmas tree and shrubbery grower, county manager, country store operator, and his favorite, working on Governor Holshouser’s campaign from 1969-1972.
He loved following NC State athletics and the Washington Redskins. He donated often to Toys for Tots and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Dean is survived by two children; Kelly (Eric) Lavin and Chris (Jane) Chrisawn, two grandchildren; Colin and Spencer. He is also survived by a sister: Cynthia Parker, two nephews and two nieces, extended family, as well as many friends in the Burnsville area.
A private family memorial will be held in the spring.
