Edwin Artin Horhorouny born October 14th, 1926 in Springfield, Massachusetts died June 28th, 2020 in Burnsville, North Carolina at Yancey House. He died of natural causes at 94 years of age. He was lovingly known to all as “Ho – Ho”.
Eddie was preceded in death by his loving parents, Hrand and Betty Horhorouny, his wife of 60 years, Joan Z. Horhorouny, also his brother and sister-in-law and a niece and nephew of Ohio.
He is survived by his son, Vince K. Horhorouny, niece Janet Wiltjer and family, special friends Brian, Lisa, Mary and many neighbors, friends, organizations and groups that he belonged to make up his vast and far reaching extended family.
Eddie served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Montague in World War II. After his service, he met Joan in New York, they soon married and moved to Miami Florida where he lived and worked at the Miami Herald until retirement and they then journeyed north to Burnsville.
Here are a few of the many organizations and groups Edwin belonged and contributed to; Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Leader, Meals on Wheels, Lions Club, Railroad Club, the Shriners of Miami and Burnsville, as well as being a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons Scottish Rite for 68 years.
Eddie was a constant fixture in Burnsville life. He was dedicated to public and community service. To those who knew him, and there are many, he was a kind and generous man. He was a creative, talented visionary who completed many amazing projects at home. Eddie loved trains and built a magnificent train layout in his own home shop. He also enjoyed cooking and was well known for his deserts, especially pies. He will be greatly missed for his humor, positive compassion and attitude.
In memoriam, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels, Lions Club, Hospice or a charity of choice.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Yancey House, where Eddie spent his final days.
A gathering to celebrate Eddie’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
