E. J. Roland, 87, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 5, 2019. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Emory and Jean Wilson Roland and the husband of Lois Brown Roland, who passed away in 2014. E. J. was also preceded in death by a daughter: Sandra Brown; sisters: Wilma Peterson and Eva Allison; and, brothers: Jim and Jack Roland. He was a US Army Veteran, and a retired employee of Glen Raven Mills with 42 years of service.
Surviving are a granddaughter: Angie Patton and husband, Jeff, of Burnsville; 2 great granddaughters: Amanda Whitson and husband, Michael, of Spruce Pine and Jennifer Miller and husband, Donovan, of Green Mountain; 2 great, great granddaughters: Chloe and Caroline Whitson of Spruce Pine; special nieces: Jacki Doyle and Jeannie Pradat and, numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM Thursday in Bolens Creek Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Dr. Chris Morgan and Rev. Robert Norris will officiate. Burial will be in the Wilson Family Cemetery on Evans Road on Jacks Creek, with military honors by Sgt. E. L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7PM Wednesday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home, where the body will remain until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
