Doyce McClure Obituary

Doyce Gilyard McClure, 39 and holding, of Burnsville, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at his home.  Born in Transylvania County and raised in Swannanoa, he was a son of the late R. C. and Mae Owens McClure.  He was also preceded in death by sisters:  Margaret, Mildred and Mable; brother:  Junior; a son:  Roger Gilyard McClure; and a granddaughter:  Chrisy McClure Ray.  Doyce was a retired drivers license examiner with 30 years of service.  He was the oldest member of Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was Sunday School superintendent for over 40 years.  He was a former member of the Burnsville Town Council, past president of the Lions Club, was instrumental in creating the youth baseball and adult softball league in Burnsville, and was an avid Carolina Tar heels and Atlanta Braves fan.  Doyce was a US Navy veteran. His grandsons and great grandsons were his pride and joy.

Surviving are his wife loving of 69 years:  Louise Huggins McClure, who was his primary caregiver and right hand; son:  Steve McClure and wife, Donna; daughter:  Sharon Honeycutt and husband, Roger, all of Burnsville; 2 grandchildren:  Bryan McClure and wife, Samantha, and Jake Honeycutt and wife, Jordan; great grandsons:  Grayson McClure and Mason and Camden Honeycutt, Steven and Treven Ray; their father:  Justin Ray; a sister, Shirley Robinson of Tennessee; and, his beloved dog:  Clayton.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM Friday in Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church Family Life Center.  Dr. John Fowler and Rev. Joe Bennett will officiate.  Burial will be in the Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain.

The family will receive friends from 11AM until 1PM, prior to the service at the church.
