Douglas Vanoy Gilley

Doug Gilley, 84, of Lower Browns Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 3, 2019, at his home.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Telman and Ethel Miller Gilley.  He was preceded in death by his wife:  Carlean Fox Gilley, who passed away in 2003.  He was also preceded in death by brothers:  James, Billy and Charles Gilley; and a sister:  Pauline Geouge.  Doug’s passion was the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and his old car and car shows.  Doug was a 50 year member of Blue Rock Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter:  Kim Smith and husband, Dale; 2 grandchildren:  Aaron and Morgan Smith, all of Hickory; and a special friend:  Frances Huskins of Burnsville.

Funeral services will be held at 7PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Revs. Kenneth Forbes and Charles Carroll will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 10AM Thursday in Newdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
