Doris Freeman Proffitt, 83, of Burnsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 6, 2019, at her home. She was born in Newport News, VA and lived in North Carolina most of her life. Doris was a daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Viar Freeman, and the wife of Robert Proffitt who passed away in 2010.
Surviving are her children: Gail Edmonds and husband, Tony, of Weaverville, David Higgins and wife, Pam, and Donna Hoover and husband, Tony, all of Burnsville; a sister: Helen Freeman Ray and husband, Jennings; and, brother: Rev. GE Freeman and wife, Barbara, all of Burnsville; grandchildren: Megan Baldwin and husband, Zach, and Katie Wells and husband, Cody, all of Marshall, and Mandi Rhom and husband, Steve, of Marion; step grandchildren: Leah Edwards and husband, Evan, and Katrina McIntosh and husband, Kyle, all of Burnsville; step daughter: Stephanie Cox and husband, Curtis, of Colorado; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 1 step great, great grandchild; niece: Amy Ray Boyd and Michael; nephews: Mark Freeman and Sherry, Matt Freeman and Sandy, and Jeff Ray and Mitzi; 3 great nieces; 2 great nephews; and, a very special friend: Bruce Young of Burnsville.
Funeral services will be held at 6PM Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in Liberty Hill Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Revs. Clay Dale, Ricky Ray and GE Freeman will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 1PM Thursday, October 10, 2019 in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6PM Wednesday, prior to the service at the church.
