Don Gary Childs

Don Childs, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 28th, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. A native of Buncombe County, Don was a son of the late Albert Lee Childs and Isabel Whittemore Childs; and step-son of the late Jennie Smith Childs.  Don was a well-known and respected automobile dealer in the Asheville area for over 30 years. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, and loved the country he served.  

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Claudette Wilson Childs, of the home; his brothers, William Childs and wife, Jeanelle of Burnsville, NC; twin brother, Ronnie Childs and wife, Joy of Canton, NC; sisters: Patricia Stephens of Weaverville, NC and Deborah Foster and husband Larry, of Due West, South Carolina; an aunt, Thelma Andrews of State College, Pennsylvania; brother and sister in-law, David and Linda Griffith of Burnsville, NC. Don was preceded in death by a nephew, Brian Childs; a sister-in-law, Janice Childs; and brother-in-law, Jay Stephens. Don was a favorite uncle of a number of nieces and nephews, who lit up his life, as well as several beloved cousins.  

Don also leaves behind many close and cherished friends in his second home in Arizona, including his brother of the heart, Keith Renkly. The love and support of each of these individuals has touched our hearts deeply. Don had a sincere love for all of God’s creation, and will be especially missed by his little dog BJ. 

Due to ongoing Covid concerns, services will be postponed until a later date. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the many friends, family, and medical professionals, who have supported us throughout this journey. Every day has been a blessing from God.
