Cleo Robinson, age 81 of the Prices Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 16th, 2021 at his home. Born August 24th, 1939 to the late Willie and Irene Autrey Robinson. He was husband of 60 years to the late Unieda Burleson Robinson, who passed away January 3rd, 2019. He was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Sarah Dawn Carpenter.
Cleo was a wonderful father, grandfather, and a friend to many. A family man who always provided for and put his family first. He loved the mountains and enjoyed being in the woods. He began working for Banco Lumber Co. in 1964 where owner, the late William A. “Bill” Banks and family, became a part of his family. Cleo loved to laugh and share memories of his co-workers and days at the sawmill. He was a hard-working man who would cruise timber for the lumber company, log with his boys and never complain.
He is survived by sons: C.J. Robinson and wife Kathy, Gary Robinson and wife Julie, of the home, Derrick Robinson and wife Chris, of Pensacola; daughters: Tyrina Garland and husband Rodney, of Indian Creek, Christel McFarland and husband Lee, of Prices Creek; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren: brother, Sherman Robinson and wife Helen, of Burnsville. Also, his faithful sidekick and traveling buddy, his little dog, “Frisky.”
In honor of Cleo’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 19th in the Autrey Cemetery at South Estatoe Baptist Church. Reverend Dale Banks officiating.
A quote from Cleo: “A man preaches his own funeral in the way he lives. I know I’m saved and that’s what matters most. I don’t want to put others’ lives at risk with this covid mess. Just put me in the ground.”
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of the Blue Ridge for taking such special care of their loved one. A special thank you to Megan Chandler. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Blue Ridge at 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
