On 11/8/23 Clarence Hunter found ultimate peace by leaving this earth to walk eternally with his lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Son, Brother, Dad, Grandad, Pops, Papa, Granddaddy, or simply Clarence Hunter, he was greatly loved, admired and respected. He grew up in a farming family in the small town of Burnsville, NC.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Jean Hunter; parents Claude and Flossie Hunter; brothers JD, CL and Claude Junior; sisters Pansy, Lydia & Bessie, and grandson Darrell Hunter Jr.
He is survived by 4 sons and three daughters-in-law, Darrell & Sally Hunter, Alan Hunter, Tom & Tonya Hunter, Jeff & Lisa Hunter; one daughter, Debbie; sister Jessie Robinson; grandchildren Eric, Adrian, Luke, Andrea Carothers, Megan Behrns, Austin, Katelyn Boone & Ben; and great grand-children including Courtney Hunter whom he and Emma-Jean raised as a daughter; and a host of in-laws, and nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.
Clarence will forever leave a legacy of being a hard worker who provided for his family with very little formal education. From a farming background, he sacrificially pushed forward through self-education and perseverance to better provide for his family. He not only achieved supervisor status but also nuclear clearance in the welding department of the Newport News Shipyard. His hard work ethic has inspired many family members and friends to excel in their given professions. On top of that, many would say he is the toughest man they have ever met. Upon retirement from the shipyard, and in addition to other work, he worked relentlessly annually raising a garden to provide fruits and vegetables to his friends and family.
