Cecil Eugene "Gene" Higgins

Cecil Eugene “ Gene” Higgins, 78, of Burnsville, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019.  A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Cecil Higgins and Chloe Banks Beiers.  He was also preceded in death by a half-brother:  James Russell Banks. Gene was a member of Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church, and a retired member of the Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Chief for 13 years.  He was also a former police officer with the Town of Burnsville.  Gene, along with his partner, Dennis McCurry, owned and operated M&H Motors and M&H Chevrolet-Buick, Inc. from 1982 until his retirement in 2003.  Retirement gave him the opportunity to do what he really loved, spending time with friends and family.

Left to cherish his memory are his son:  David Higgins and wife, Amber; grandchildren:  Trevor and Lynnsey Higgins; and many devoted friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Dr. John W. Fowler will officiate.  Burial will be in the McCracken Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
