Arthur Sherry Obituary

Arthur Sherry, formerly of Burnsville, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, died on the 26th of July 2022 in Nashua, New Hampshire due to natural causes. He was 93. Arthur was born on June 23rd, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Theadore and Ann Sherry. He joined the military at an early age and was trained as a US Army Airforce aviation mechanic. He was stationed in Okinawa during Korean Conflict and was critical to the maintenance of the aircraft flying missions during his tour of duty.

He was married twice and raised 5 children. After serving in the military, he moved to South Florida and called it home for many years. Arthur used what he learned in the US Army Airforce and prior business experience to secure a position as a mechanical inspector for the City of Miami Beach. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science at Nova Southeastern in Technology Management to enhance his career opportunities and obtained a role as a mechanical engineer supervisor at the Miami International Airport.

As a veteran, Arthur was heavily involved in the Jewish War Veterans (JWV) Florida Chapter and subsequently, became the Florida Department President. Arthur was always interested in history and over time that interest focused on the Civil War. Channeling his inner “Actor”, he joined a Civil War reenactment group and spent many years playing both the North and the South. He was so interested in the history of this period that he went out and bought a Civil War era cannon to take to the historical battle fields.

After retirement, Arthur spent his days watching historical and mystery shows. He was also an avid reader and read so many books weekly that he stopped buying them and just had them checked out of the library.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Tom Sherry and wife, Lisa, Millie and partner, Jim Sherry and wife, Mary and grandog, Oreo, Lee Sherry and wife, Barbara, and Paul Sherry; as well as his 4 grandchildren: Taylor, Zachary, Jordyn and Dana.

His family paid this tribute: “Arthur was a one-of-a-kind, no-nonsense pragmatist and looked at life as a journey. He will be sorely missed.”

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 4th in the Academy Cemetery in Burnsville at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to service time in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.
