Horace Higgins, Jr

Horace Higgins, Jr. 76, of Burnsville, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Horace Higgins, Sr. and Lyda Woodby Higgins and the husband of Eleanor Barham Higgins, who passed away in 2015.  He was a graduate of NC State,  with a BS in Textile Technology, a U S Marine Corp Veteran and a member of West Burnsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother: William Kenneth Higgins and wife Yvonne of Midland, Alice Sandlin of Burnsville, who was like a sister; a step daughter: Julia Diane Reaves and husband Brad of Raleigh, step granddaughters: Tonya Hildebrand and husband Harold Herman of Knightdale and Kelly Vetter and husband Brian of Garner; step great grandchildren: Blake Hildebrand and Kyle and Ashley Vetter , a niece: Denice Higgins of Huntersville; and nephews: William Kevin Higgins and wife Dawna of Aiken, SC, and William Kenny Higgins and wife Tara of Gainesville, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 22, 2020 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Pastor Terry Long and Rev. Dale Laws will officiate.  Burial will be in West Burnsville Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by Sgt. E. L. Randolph, Chapter 57, DAV.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
