Harmon “Wilson” Hensley, 83, of Burnsville, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Shelby Lee and Eula Wilson Hensley. He was preceded in death by brothers: Fred, Leslie, Al and Molt Hensley; sisters: Doris Roland, Hilda Maye Hensley; 2 grandchildren: Quinton Wilson and Kristi Elliott. Wilson was a US Marine Corps Veteran and retired from the Department of Transportation after 31 years of service. He was a faithful member of West Burnsville Baptist Church, having served in various positions, and also taught a Bible class at Haven Heights Nursing Home for 33 years. Wilson was also a Gideon.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years: Louise Huskins Wilson Hensley; 3 precious children whom he was so proud of: Doyle Wilson, Sheila Wilson and Randall Wilson and wife, Debbie, all of Burnsville; grandchildren: Shannon Elliott and Dakota Cody; great grandchildren: Jade, Laysyn and Eli; brothers: Lloyd Hensley and wife, Judy, of Baton Rouge, LA, Craig Hensley and wife, Iva, of Charleston, SC and Ronnie Hensley and wife, Pam, of Marion; a sister-in-law: Jeanne Hensley of Marion; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday in West Burnsville Baptist Church. Pastor Ricky Ray and Chip Banks will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
