Genavee (Freeman) Layell

Genavee Freeman Layell, 85, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 29, 2019, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Ruth Robinson Freeman, and the wife of Heburn Layell who passed away in 2005.  She was also preceded in death by sisters:  Betty Jean Freeman, Jerlean Silvers and Willa Mae Whitson.  Genavee loved God, her family, and will be remembered as a shining light to all who knew her.  She retired from Glen Raven Mills and was a member of West Burnsville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School over 52 years.

Surviving is her son:  Jerry Layell and wife, Mitzi; a grandson:  Justin Layell and wife, Jennifer; and great granddaughters:  Reese Layell and Lilly Thacker, all of Burnsville; a brother:  Doyle Freeman and wife, Teresa, of Mills River; nieces:  Sherry Fender and husband, Bill, of Burnsville, and Debbie Taylor and husband, Tim, of Swannanoa; and several other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Wednesday, January 1, 2020, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Revs. Ricky Ray and Harold Bennett, Jr. will officiate.  Burial will be in West Burnsville Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
