Farrie Hughes, 93, of Shoal Creek, went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 2, 2019, at Spruce Pine Brian Center. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Mollie Wyatt Boone, and the wife of Sylvester Hughes who passed away in 2000. She was also preceded in death by grandchildren: Felecia Davis and A. J. Hollifield; son-in-law: Tommy Letterman; sisters: Jewell Boone and Virginia McPeters; and, a brother: Rudolph Boone.
Surviving are her daughters: Elizabeth Letterman, Joyce Honeycutt (Gerald), and Laura Gail Hollifield (Keith), all of Burnsville, Grace Buchanan (Jim), of Spruce Pine, and Kathy Packard (David) of Port St. Lucie, FL; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and, 3 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday in Plum Branch Baptist Church, of which she was a member and former children’s Sunday School teacher. Pastor Kelly Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in the Boone Cemetery on Plum Branch.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8PM Monday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home, where her body will remain until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Elizabeth Letterman.
