Ernest Van Ray, 82, of Burnsville, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019, at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Isaac and Lillie Hensley Ray, and the husband of Carolyn Deyton Ray who passed away in 2004. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Maurice, Carlton “Cotton”, and Randall Vance Ray. Ernest was a US Army Veteran, and retired from Northwest Regional Housing Authority. He was an active member of his political party.
Surviving are his sister: Janice Green and husband, Charlie, of Greensboro; brother: Larry Ray and wife, Larene, of Charlotte; nephew and caregiver: Ryan Isaac Ray; sister-in-law and caregiver: Pamela Jean Ray; special niece and nephew: Sebrina and Myreon Ray, all of Burnsville; sister-in-law: Juanita Ray of Raleigh; and, several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2019 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in the Laws Cemetery at Green Mountain.
