David Lee Blankenship, 73, of Shoal Creek, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019, at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Ray and Osie Atkins Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Roy and Jerome Blankenship. David was a deacon and superintendent of Pilgrims Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired trucker and was loved by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years: Eloise Hughes Blankenship; a daughter: Brandy Blankenship and a grandson: Tyler Blankenship, both of Leicester; a sister: Raylene Anglin and husband, Ralph; and a brother: Gene Blankenship and wife, Linda, all of Burnsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Russell Hughes and Ronnie Whitson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hughes Cemetery on Shoal Creek.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
